From green spaces and public parks to neighborhood streets and outdoor classrooms, Huntsville’s Landscape Management and Green Teams spent 2025 strengthening environmental stewardship and community pride across the city.
Powered by dozens of City employees and thousands of volunteers, the teams focused on expanding the tree canopy, improving public spaces, and engaging residents in caring for the areas everyone shares. Their work demonstrated what is possible when City departments and the community work side by side.
Green Team, a Keep America Beautiful affiliate and division of the City of Huntsville’s Landscape Management Department, led a citywide cleanup campaign supported by 2,166 volunteers. Throughout the year, Green Team hosted 303 cleanup events, collecting a total of 91 tons of garbage from parks, waterways, and gathering spaces. Major community events, including Earth Day, National Cleanup Day, and Panoply, played a key role in those efforts.
The Adopt-a-Spot program continued to grow, with 115 partner groups now committed to maintaining public areas. Those groups included schools, businesses, churches, civic organizations, and neighborhood teams that took long-term ownership of shared spaces.
Tree planting was another major focus in 2025. Volunteers and City staff planted 1,052 trees during events such as Mayor’s Tree Planting Day and Cavalry Hill Tree Planting Day, reinforcing the City’s commitment to expanding its urban forest.
Education remained central to the mission, with 7,864 students participating in Green Team Ambassador programs focused on litter prevention, environmental responsibility, and civic pride. Green Team also celebrated the 50th annual Huntsville Beautification Awards, recognizing 347 residential and commercial properties.
Behind the scenes, Landscape crews logged 13,560 curb miles of street sweeping and maintained planting beds and hanging baskets citywide.
Looking ahead, projects planned for 2026 include a Veterans Memorial Tree Grove and a new City Arboretum, ensuring Huntsville continues to grow greener together.
