HUNTSVILLE, AL — NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center is advancing plans for a new $45 million facility to serve as a central hub on its Redstone Arsenal North Campus. The proposed Marshall Exploration Facility will be a 67,000-square-foot building housing 150 staff and accommodating frequent visitors.

Designed as a flexible, future-ready space, the building will feature offices, training rooms, and meeting areas, aiming to restore lost capabilities following the demolition of historic Building 4200 in 2022 due to structural issues.

The new structure will be the second major addition to the campus in a decade, following the completion of Building 4221 in 2019. NASA is accepting qualifications from design firms through July 2, with finalists expected to submit full proposals this year.

This move comes as Marshall faces potential federal budget cuts to its SLS and Orion programs, critical components of NASA’s Artemis moon missions. Despite uncertainty, Marshall remains a major driver of Alabama’s economy, contributing $5.1 billion in impact statewide.
