Alabama A&M Football Shows Progress, Ahead of Schedule After Spring Scrimmage

Alabama A&M football appears to be on the rise as head coach Sam Shade says the Bulldogs are ahead of where they were this time last year following the team’s spring scrimmage.

The Bulldogs wrapped up spring camp with the annual Maroon & White Game at Louis Crews Stadium, where the defense made an early statement. A Keon Handley Jr. interception and a forced three-and-out helped the defense build an early advantage before the offense found its rhythm.

After a slow start, the offense responded with key plays, including a field goal by David Faulk and a touchdown pass from quarterback Mac Armstrong to Jarel Williams. Wide receiver Jordan Chambers-Smith added two touchdown receptions of 18 and 9 yards to highlight the offensive effort.

Shade praised the team’s overall development, pointing to improved execution and stronger chemistry. “We are further along than where we were last year,” Shade said. “We’re always trying to improve and get better.”

Expected starting quarterback Cornelious “Quad” Brown IV was held out during the spring while awaiting NCAA clearance, but is now expected to take on a larger role heading into summer workouts and fall camp.

The Bulldogs are looking to rebound after a 4-8 season and a 1-7 record in SWAC play. With progress this spring and key players returning, expectations are rising.

Alabama A&M will open the 2026 season against Howard in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge in Atlanta, with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m. on ABC.
