HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A new opportunity is opening doors for small construction businesses across North Alabama, as Turner Construction Company launches an eight-week training program designed to help local firms grow, compete, and win major contracts.
The Turner School of Construction Management (TSCM) is now accepting applications through April 30, with weekly sessions beginning May 7 and running through June 25. Classes will be held every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Turner’s Huntsville office on Finney Drive, with lunch provided.
The program is free and aimed at construction-related businesses that have been operating for at least three years. Space is limited, making early application key for interested participants.
“The Turner School of Construction Management is designed to create meaningful opportunities for local small businesses,” said Rebecca Goodwin, senior community and citizenship specialist for Turner. “By providing access to resources, relationships, and real project experience, we’re helping firms strengthen their capabilities in today’s marketplace.”
Workshops will focus on building managerial, technical, and administrative skills while also helping companies increase visibility with large contractors and strengthen industry connections—critical steps for securing subcontracting opportunities on major projects.
Turner Construction, which has operated in Alabama since the 1950s, continues to play a major role in regional development across sectors such as aerospace, education, and government. Company leaders say they aim to award at least 20 percent of subcontracting work to small and local businesses—often exceeding 30 percent.
For Huntsville and surrounding communities, this program represents more than training—it’s a pathway to economic growth, stronger local businesses, and greater community investment.
