AAMU Battles Ranked Opponents at Penguin Classic

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Alabama A&M University women’s bowling team closed out competition at the Chelsea Gilliam Penguin Classic over the weekend, finishing 16th overall with a 2–11 record at the Holiday Bowl.

The Bulldogs faced a challenging field that included nationally ranked programs such as No. 11 Sacred Heart and No. 20 Wright State. AAMU recorded its highest traditional game of the tournament in a 1,000–911 loss to Sacred Heart, led by Alexis Orchard, who bowled a 205.

Rose Ugbinada posted a 215 against Lewis, and Simone Guyton recorded a 190 versus Wright State. Nila Dulcio added a 192 in a tight 907–871 loss to Mercyhurst before leading the Bulldogs to their first win of the season, defeating Saint Anselm 849–814 with a 185.

Ugbinada finished with a 189.4 average, placing 34th overall, while Dulcio averaged 185.6, good for 43rd.

In Sunday’s Baker matches, Alabama A&M fell 4–3 to Western Illinois but rebounded with a 4–1 victory over Saint Anselm, posting their best Baker game of 223. The Bulldogs dropped their final match to Western Illinois, 4–2, to end the weekend.

The Bulldogs will return to action October 24–26 at the Destination Orlando Invitational at SKY Lanes in Orlando, Florida.
