TSA Airs Trump Administration Shutdown Message at Huntsville Airport

Passengers move through security at Huntsville International Airport, where TSA monitors aired a Trump administration message blaming Democrats for the shutdown. The video featuring Homeland Security Director Kristi Noem has drawn criticism for its partisan tone.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Travelers passing through Huntsville International Airport (HSV) this week are seeing a video from the Trump administration blaming Democrats for the federal government shutdown — a message that is not airing at any other Alabama airport, according to AL.com.

The video, featuring Homeland Security Director Kristi Noem, is playing on TSA-controlled monitors inside HSV’s security checkpoint. Most airports nationwide have refused to run the video, calling it inappropriate for government facilities.

“It is TSA’s top priority to make sure that you have the most pleasant and efficient airport experience possible while we keep you safe,” Noem says in the message. “However, Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government… and most of our TSA employees are working without pay.”

Airport officials in BirminghamHuntsville, and Mobile confirmed they are not displaying the video on airport-operated screens.

“The BAA does not display political messages in the terminal and will not run the video,” said Kim Hunt, vice president for communications at the Birmingham Airport Authority.

The TSA, which owns the monitors showing the video, has not responded to media requests for comment.

Critics say the message crosses into partisan territory, raising legal and ethical concerns under the Hatch Act, which restricts most federal employees from engaging in political activity while on duty.

Similar videos are reported to be airing at other TSA-controlled checkpoints, including Detroit Metropolitan Airport, according to CNN.

The shutdown dispute stems from a budget impasse between Congressional Democrats and Republicans over federal spending and healthcare funding.
