BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A Jefferson County teenager has been indicted in three separate 2024 Birmingham murders, authorities confirmed this week.
Cameron Scales, 19, faces two counts of capital murder and one count of intentional murder. The indictments were issued on September 12 and made public on Monday.
Scales’ sister, Anitra Holloman, was among those killed in Birmingham’s Hush Lounge mass shooting, a case that drew statewide attention in 2022.
The first homicide occurred on March 3, 2024, during a party at a Birmingham Airbnb. Phong “Timmy” Nguyen, 21, a Clay-Chalkville High School graduate and U.S. Army veteran, was found dead from a gunshot wound to the neck. Investigators said the shooting stemmed from a robbery plot during a dice game. Scales and Daveon Dortch, 20, were both indicted for capital murder.
Scales is also charged in the May 15, 2024, killing of Ja’Quavius James “Quay” Weston, 18, who was shot near his home in Ensley Highlands following an argument.
The third case involves the June 15, 2024, shootout near East Lake Park, where 19-year-old Martavius Williams was killed and two others wounded. Rico Pickett, 21, and Keion McClure, 22, are co-defendants in that case.
Scales remains held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail. Trial dates have not yet been set.
