A major food recall has been issued for approximately 58 million pounds of corn dogs and sausage-on-a-stick products after pieces of wood were discovered embedded in the batter, officials say. Hillshire Brands Company, a subsidiary of Tyson Foods, initiated the nationwide recall on Saturday, Sept. 27.
The affected products were manufactured between March 17 and September 26, 2025, and sold under well-known brands like Jimmy Dean and State Fair, including unbranded versions for food service. Each package carries an establishment number “EST-582” or “P-894”.
The recall was prompted after multiple consumer complaints. So far, five injuries have been linked to the contaminated products. Investigators determined that the wood fragments were introduced into the production process before the battering stage, leading to contamination.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has classified this as a Class I recall, the most serious category, indicating a reasonable probability of serious health consequences.
Consumers, institutions, and schools are urged not to consume the recalled items. The FSIS advises discarding them or returning them to the place of purchase. Those concerned about injury should seek medical attention.
The USDA will post retail distribution lists and more details on its FSIS recalls site.
