WASHINGTON — The Senate’s unanimous confirmation of Space Force Gen. Michael A. Guetlein to lead the Golden Dome missile defense project includes a record $13 billion funding bump—groundedly rooted in his ties to Huntsville’s defense community at Redstone Arsenal.

“President Trump’s decision to have General Guetlein serve as the Golden Dome Czar is a strategic move to strengthen our national defense at a critical time,” said Rep. Dale Strong (R-AL05), co-chair of the newly formed Congressional Golden Dome Caucus, noting Guetlein’s background as MDA program executive at Redstone Arsenal from 2017–19.

Co-chair Rep. Jeff Crank (R-CO05) added, “Congratulations to General Guetlein on his confirmation. … I am confident that under his leadership, President Trump’s vision to innovate our homeland missile defense through Golden Dome will soon become a reality…”.

The Golden Dome Caucus, launched in June, underscores bipartisan congressional support for next-generation missile defense—positioned directly over threats such as ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missiles.

Guetlein’s confirmation on July 17 follows coordinated efforts to enhance homeland security capabilities, and with the $13 billion appropriation locked in, the program’s next phases are expected to engage Huntsville defense industry partners immediately.
