If you have any interest in the legislative process, you will find this Huntsvillian’s story of interest. Samuel Greene is a governmental affairs consultant and the sole proprietor of Greene
Consulting. The primary function of his business is communicating with lawmakers and other government officials to advocate for or against legislation, regulations, or other policies. Greene hails from Marion, Alabama, and is a graduate of Marion County Military Institute and Alabama A&M University, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning with an environmental emphasis.
When the legislative session convenes in Montgomery each spring, that is where you will find Greene advocating on behalf of Alabamians. The legislative process in Alabama is a complex and often contentious one. It involves the introduction of bills, their review by committees, and their debate and voting by the full chamber. Budgets, potential laws, and amendments are presented and debated by legislators during the session, after which they pass or fail. Topics include the agendas of the governor, elected officials, and interest groups, including nonprofits. For the last 25 years, gaming has been a highly debated topic, and in 2025, it was front and center again. Proponents, such as Mr. Greene, advocate backed by data showing a direct correlation to state revenue. However, the bill failed, citing overall moral hesitance as a basis for a lack of support.
And so goes the life of a consultant – To promote, advocate, influence, or oppose. As a political science major, Greene was recruited to work on Capitol Hill during the Obama administration. His most memorable project involved undertreated water in Uniontown, Alabama. Greene worked as a legislative assistant and procured $5M to rectify the town’s water supply through his advocacy efforts. When asked about is most impactful work, Greene shared a story of his role as the Delta Regional Authority’s Chief Strategy Officer. This was a $300M program headed by Greene under the Biden Administration. “Dozens of small towns were impacted by programs established in 2022 that continue to this day,” says Greene.
