In May of 2024, our community and dare I say Christians throughout the country, lost a giant for the cause of Christ in the person of Rev. Dr. Julius R. Scruggs — former Pastor of the First Missionary Baptist Church, in Huntsville, Alabama.
While commemorating the life of Dr. Scruggs, one of his members reminded the audience, Pastor Scruggs could often be heard reminding the saints that “God can be trusted.”
Brothers and sisters, these words are true today as they have always been — God can be trusted.
The New Living Translation of the Bible says, “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.” (Hebrews 10:23)
I’ve lived long enough to know a mouth will say anything, people often say what they have no intentions of doing; while some have good aspirations but are bound by human limitations.
Truth is, you lie, I lie, all God’s children lie.
However, the Bible reminds us “God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?” (Numbers 23:19)
If you allow your mind to run back down memories lane, through endless years, over high mountains, and down through low valleys — God has always done what He said.
Wherefore, when God says ‘He will supply all of our needs according to His riches in glory’; when God says ‘He will never leave nor forsake us’; when God says ‘No weapon formed against us shall prosper’ — God can be trusted to do just what He said.
Brothers and sisters, regardless of what you are up against, God can be trusted to see you through, bring you out, and make a way.
