SIAC Tournament takes center stage

The week-long 2024 men’s and women’s Cricket SIAC Basketball Tournaments tipped off Sunday, March 3 at Tiger Arena on the cam- pus of Savannah State University and will run until champions are crowned on Sunday, March 10.

The championship games however will be at Savannah’s new 9,500-seat Enmarket Arena on Sunday, March 10.

Here’s the way the top teams were seeded for the tournament.

WOMEN – West Division

Kentucky State (19-6, 15-4 SIAC) won five of its final six games to edge out Miles (20- 6, 15-4 SIAC) for the West No. 1 seed. The two teams split their regular season games.

Lane (13-13, 11-8 SIAC) claimed the num- ber three seed in the division after Tuskegee (14-9, 11-8 SIAC) ended the season on a three- game losing streak landing the Golden Tigers in the fourth spot.

WOMEN – East Division

Host Savannah State (19-5, 15-4 SIAC) finished a strong regular season campaign to earn the top seed in the East.

Fort Valley State (14-10, 12-7 SIAC) earned the No. 2 seed with Clark Atlanta (14- 11, 11-8 SIAC) third.

MEN West Division

Defending champion Miles (21-5, 16-4 SIAC), claimed the number one seed in the West after ending the season on a nine-game winning streak. Tuskegee is in as the 2nd seed (13-14, 12-8 SIAC) followed by Spring Hill (14-12, 11-9 SIAC).

MEN – East Division

Clark Atlanta (22-5, 16-5 SIAC) secured

the number one seed in the East after sweeping No. 2 seed Morehouse (19-9, 16-5 SIAC).

Nationally-ranked (No. 22) Benedict (21-6, 15-6) is the 3rd seed.

The No. 1 men’s and women’s teams will take the floor in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

GAMES SO FAR

By BCSP press time on Tuesday, five games had been played.

In Sunday’s lone contest, the Lane men de- feated Albany State 80-69.

On Monday, Benedict’s women opened play with a 54-51 win over LeMoyne-Owen and the Albany State women beat Spring Hill 58-41.

In men’s play Monday, LeMoyne-Owen defeated Fort Valley State 86-78 and Edward Waters downed Central State 70-66.
