One Woman’s Opinion

Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers.  Please subscribe to the paper it has some great news and can be delivered to you weekly. I will be glad when the warm weather gets here but seems the months are passing fast.

I wish I could quit caring so much about politics. If you think Washington politics is bad, check and keep up with our leaders in Huntsville. The Mayor and City Council never have work sessions anymore or present to the public what is going on. Whoever is running this city has made so many bad decisions about development. The developers are going to Zoning and Variance meetings and the Planning Department meetings and getting exactly what they ask for from our city leaders. It is surprising how the variances and setbacks are being changed for the developers. Look at the construction taking place on Governors Drive across from the Post Office. The buildings are almost setting in the roadway. I see who the developer is on the construction sign and it is the same one who built the hotel downtown. I will find out who owns this property and how much money the city has spent in helping this development.

ORION AMPHITHEATER CITY OWNED

The $40 million Orion Amphitheater is under construction at MidCity, off of U.S. 72. The city will also be helping the Venue Group launch a new downtown club-sized venue called the Meridian Social Club this summer at 108 Cleveland Avenue N.W. which was home to A.M. Booth’s Lumberyard near Furniture Factory Bar and Grill.

HOUSING AUTHORITY

Is the Housing Authority going out of business?  I called the office on Friday and was told they do not work on Fridays. I saw a presentation presented to the City Council as a plan to build more new businesses. The Housing Authority is planning on tearing down the housing just west of the Parkway on Governors Drive. This would be a great place for mix use property and they should leave this property alone. The people living there do not bother anybody. Those units are nice but the city told the Housing Authority that radon was found in the apartments and was dangerous for the tenants. We all have radon in our homes and the council just used this as an excuse to tear them down. The City Council needs some new members as I have seen some of the worst deals than I have ever seen out of this current administration. Our Leaders are working for the developers and using no common sense.

I love this this City and its citizens and it is a shame that our city government does not let the public be heard anymore.

Love you all and have a blessed week.
