Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. Christmas is over and we need to get ready for a new year. I hope everyone had a great Christmas and that 2022 is the best year for everyone.
Our family met at my son’s house for Christmas and we had a great dinner and lots fun family time. I want to thank them for having us all over to their house and cooking for us all.
I was hoping I could back off politics some this year but that is not going to happen. Politics and our political leaders are always on my mind. We must all start keeping up with who is on the ballot for the elections and how they are going to make things better for us the citizens. Prayers are needed for our leaders to be the best for year 2022. Our city leaders need to invite the public to the meetings and hear what the citizens have to say. We want to be the best city not the biggest city.
VON BRAUN CENTER
The Von Braun Center Propst arena received a $4 million makeover with funding coming from the City of Huntsville’s lodging tax and from internal VBC funds from parking and concession sales. The upgrades include dressing rooms, locker rooms, artists lounges, offices and catering areas. I wish they would have used funds to purchase the old Coke property to expand the VBC instead. The city has never done much to help the VBC or to expand it. It’s also a mystery why our city leaders did not help the owner of the Heart of Huntsville property for so many years while that property sat empty. That owner found some outside partners and look at it now.
PARKING GARAGE
Why does the city need to demolish the city parking garage across from City Hall? It makes no sense why they would not build the new city hall back on the same property where it sets now and use some of the beautiful marble from the existing building for the new one. I wonder who they are they going to give this property away to as they have many other pieces of city property before.
