Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. I wish everyone a happy, blessed week as Fall is around the corner. Thanks to Mr. William Smothers for showing the public there is another newspaper in this city with a lot of good news and stories. Subscribe and tell your friends to do so too. You can have it delivered to your home. This paper has been a big part of my life and keeps me stress free. I love this city and its citizens, elected Officials, and employees. It is a loving, caring city and I hope it stays this way.
CITY GROWTH
There are many changes taking place in this city. Who is in charge of these changes? After going to two Madison City Council meetings the topic of hiring a City Manager was brought up. They chose not to hire a city manager in Madison during the last two Mayors before this one. In my opinion, the Huntsville City Manager runs the city of Huntsville and tells the Mayor and City Council what is needed. In the past years we have had administrated aides, but these aids never got up to speak on issues before the City Council. Mayor Battle’s first 8 years were different than they are now. The had work sessions where to discuss the issues with the public and city employees. It is hard for me to believe that Mr. Dallas Fanning would have done all this development this fast as it was planned better in the Planning Department when he was in charge. Mr. Shane Davis, the Engineering Director and the administration assistant now explain the issues at the meetings right before they are voted on by the Council. The city has bought so much property over the last few years and then classify it as surplus, so they can sell it to developers. The Finance Department has many employees helping with the budget.
BIGGEST CITY
Our leaders wanted Huntsville to be the biggest city in Alabama and they got their wish. Huntsville’s growth is evident from all the construction downtown and elsewhere. There are many acres annexed into the city at every council meeting. Alabama has grown faster than expected as well. The County approved 500 new lots in the home market. The field north of Huntsville on U.S. 231 is being developed. Over $5 Million in funds are available in Huntsville and Madison County to help pay rent and utilities for people financially impacted by the COVID-19.
COVID-19 – HOSPITALS
The hospitals are overcrowded due to COVID-19. There have been almost 2,400 Covid patients admitted since July. Please pray and take this seriously. Consider getting the vaccination if you have not already done so.
Love you all and have a blessed week.
