Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. Hope every mother had a great Mother’s Day as this day is important. Some of our mothers have left us but we will never forget them as they were special. My family had a great day as we celebrated Mother’s Day and my son’s birthday together. My son’s birthday was back in April, but we were not able to celebrate until this week due to attending several out-of-town funerals. I am thankful for my son and daughter they are always there and check on me daily. I get a big laugh when my son calls me “Tough Ole Bird” and I love it.
SCHOOLS OUT
There are many colleges out for the summer. My grandson came home from college this weekend. He is a great student and worker and will be starting his intern job in the next few weeks. This will a great experience for him as he loves working and being around people. I hope all the students have a great summer as they have lived thru some tough times this pass school year.
POLICE OFFICERS
It would be hard today to be a Police Officer. People should not challenge the police or argue with them when they are trying to do their job. Both Police Officers and the people need to be more aware and concerned as to what is going on around them. Please be careful and lets all try to work together.
SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER
I was reading in a paper where Walter McGinnis spent 36 years with the Huntsville City Schools before resigning Thursday. McGinnis said his resignation was due to his doctor’s advice. He served as Assistant Principal at Grissom High and Whitesburg Middle School and Principal at Chapman Middle School. He is the District 4 representative which includes the Huntsville High district. He wanted to wish everyone an affectionate farewell and is looking forward to spending more time with his four grandchildren. I want to thank him for all his years of service as his heart was always with the school system. He will be missed.
TRAVELERS TRAIL
Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle opened a new downtown gateway park last week. The park is located on Dr. Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard. There is a vertical sculpture center piece named “TRAVELERS” at the location. The plans are to make a new main entrance to downtown. The park sits in front of the main offices of Redstone Federal Credit Union, and they are one of the supporters of the park and sculpture along with the city. Mayor Battle dedicated this new Community Foundation Park.
CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
Next year is election year for 3 of the City Council Members. I believe it is time for a change. It is unclear who is really running this city and who comes up with all these ideas.
Love you all and have a blessed week.
