ONE WOMAN’S OPINION

Jackie Reed, Columnist

Thanks, to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers.  Enjoy this beautiful weather as we hope for a great summer without all the viruses and sickness, we have had this past year. I want to thank workers of Huntsville Hospital and the other places that have helped with the vaccinations and caring for the sick.  This virus has been life changing.  Did the leaders of our country dig in to find out who and what started this?

So thankful that the tornadoes, hail, and heavy rains missed our area this past week but there were other places that go hit hard. Pray for them all, as weather is serious this time of year.

GAS PRICES

Alabama gas prices are up 40 cents per gallon in Alabama and it is being blamed on the increase in travel.  Americans have turned optimistic on recovery of COVID-19 and are ready to start doing things again. Nationally the average price of gasoline has risen for the 10th straight week.

OTHER NEWS

Alabama cities and counties will be getting $4.43 billion from Stimulus money for direct aid as part of an American Rescue Plan.

The Senate is still studying the lottery and gambling bill and will vote on the Bill following Spring Break.

BROOKS — BORDER CRISIS

Rep. Mo Brooks, R- Huntsville and other Republicans co-signed a letter urging Dr. Anthony Fauci to use influence to prevent the spread of COVID-19 from immigrants at our southern border.  We need to thank them as thousands are coming to America untested and our political leaders do not seem to care about the impact this may have on us citizens.  What are Democrats doing to our country and why are they not going thru the right political process to address our issues instead of just making things worse.  Daily buses are delivering hundreds immigrant to our borders, but we need to help our citizens here first.

ELECTION REFORM

The new election reform that politicians are trying to push thru is not good. It needs to be revised to ensure it minimize voter fraud. Voters need to have papers and identifications that proves they are qualified to vote.  You should have two months to vote before the elections thru certified means. The official voting date needs to be held on a certain date and then closed with no more votes being accepted after the voting day deadline.

CITY LEADERS

Our city leaders concern me as what they have done and are doing to our beautiful city.  Why does the City Council agenda keep having surplus city property listed on it at every meeting and what is this all about? They need to tell us where the property is located and what is going to be built there.  Who is running this city as it is hard for me to believe that these are the Mayor’s ideas?  The first 8 years he did a great job, but things have changed so much as of late. The meeting agenda has changed and does not allow people to have questions at the end of the meeting. Citizens are limited to the 3 minutes they get to speak during the meeting provided they have signed up to speak in advance. We have no work sessions anymore that allow the public to attend.

Love you all and have a blessed week.
