Midterm primary elections are just around the corner. Research your candidates and make sure you’re prepared. Here are some key dates to keep in mind.
May 04, 2026 – This is the last date you can register to vote. If you need to verify that you are registered to vote, you can easily do so by visiting myinfo.alabamavotes.gov. You will need to input the following information: your name, address, and date of birth.
Note that your polling location can be verified by entering your physical address. If you aren’t registered to vote, you can visit the Alabama Secretary of State website and submit an application electronically.
You can also download a voter registration form from the Secretary of State’s site, fill it out, and mail it to the local office of the Board of Registrars in which you reside.
Finally, if you don’t have access to the internet, you can call 1-800-274-8683 to request an application or send a request to: Office of the Secretary of State, Elections Division, PO Box 5616, Montgomery, AL 36103.
May 19, 2026 – This is the last day to return an application for a regular absentee ballot by mail. It must be received by noon. If hand-delivered, it must be received by 5 pm on the day prior to the election. The ballot can only be counted if the affidavit is notarized or signed by two witnesses. You may apply for an absentee ballot if you: expect to be out of the county on election day, are physically incapacitated, expect to work a minimum 10-hour shift that coincides with polling hours, are currently incarcerated but are otherwise eligible to vote, or have been appointed as an election officer at a different polling place, a student at an educational facility outside your permanent county, or residence, or are a caregiver for a family member.
Elections are set to take place on May 19, 2026. Polling places will be open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Your voice matters. And always remember that elections have consequences. We’ll see you at the polls!
