SPEAKIN’ OUT NEWS

Former Alabama A&M women’s soccer standout Jasmine Perez-Acosta is taking the next step in her playing career after signing a professional contract with Peninsula Power FC in Australia, marking a major milestone for both the athlete and the Bulldogs’ program.
Perez-Acosta concluded her collegiate career by earning SWAC Midfielder of the Year honors, establishing herself as one of the conference’s most consistent and influential players. Known for her composure on the ball, relentless work rate and ability to control the tempo of matches, she became a central figure in Alabama A&M’s midfield and a leader on the field.
“Jasmine represents everything we strive for in our program — commitment, consistency and competitive excellence,” said Alabama A&M head coach Prince Borde. “Her journey from Huntsville to the professional ranks overseas is a testament to her dedication and growth as a player.”
Perez-Acosta signed with Peninsula Power FC, a respected club based in Redcliffe, Queensland. The team competes in the National Premier Leagues Queensland (NPL Queensland), one of the top competitive leagues within Australia’s soccer system.
The move highlights Perez-Acosta’s steady development and readiness for professional competition at an international level. Her rise from SWAC Midfielder of the Year to professional footballer reflects her discipline, preparation and on-field maturity.
Beyond individual achievement, her signing underscores the growing impact of SWAC and HBCU programs on the global soccer landscape. As more players transition from HBCU athletics to professional leagues worldwide, Perez-Acosta’s success adds to that momentum.
Perez-Acosta is expected to join Peninsula Power FC immediately as the club prepares for the upcoming season, carrying with her the pride of Alabama A&M University and the promise of continued excellence on the world stage.
