(LEFT) Nicki Minaj is set to appear at the United Nations with U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz to discuss rising violence against Christians in Nigeria.
Nicki Minaj, the Trinidad-born rap superstar who rose to fame in Queens, New York, is stepping into global politics in an unexpected way. The Trump Administration has invited the 41-year-old artist to address the United Nations on growing attacks against Christians in Nigeria—an issue she has recently spoken about with urgency and emotion.
According to TMZ, Minaj’s invitation was facilitated by Trump media strategist Alex Bruesewitz, who will appear alongside her and U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz. Waltz publicly praised Minaj, saying she is “guided by principle and refuses to ignore human suffering,” TMZ reported.
Minaj thanked the administration for the opportunity, writing that she felt “deeply honored” to use her influence for a “higher purpose.” She told fans that her platform is shaped by “divine intention,” emphasizing that her Barbz fanbase shares a responsibility to speak out against injustice.
Her appearance follows her support for former President Donald Trump, who recently condemned violence targeting Nigerian Christians. Trump stated that the United States should consider strong measures— “including military action”—to protect vulnerable communities, according to TMZ. Minaj echoed that “no one should be harmed for practicing their faith,” calling respect across beliefs essential for any society.
A Complicated Crisis
International observers caution that Nigeria’s conflict is complex. BBC News notes that President Bola Tinubu stressed that violence has impacted both Christians and Muslims. With the country nearly evenly divided between the two religions, tensions remain sensitive and politically charged.
As Minaj prepares to speak before global leaders, many are watching to see whether her voice will draw renewed attention to one of West Africa’s most pressing humanitarian concerns.
