DOTHAN, Ala. — Police are searching for a North Carolina man accused of opening fire during a shootout inside a Dothan barbershop at the Wiregrass Commons Mall on Sunday afternoon.
Authorities have identified the suspect as 25-year-old Sharier AlQuan Caesar, who is wanted on charges of attempted murder and shooting into an occupied building.
Police say the gunfire erupted shortly before 4 p.m. inside Not Just Cuts Barbershop, located next to the Spirit of Halloween store. According to investigators, 20-year-old Korlon Michael Salter entered the barbershop with two others and began threatening a man who was getting a haircut. Salter reportedly pulled a gun, prompting the customer to draw his own weapon. A shootout followed, with witnesses reporting hearing up to 50 gunshots.
Salter was struck several times and remains in critical condition, Dothan police said. Caesar, who allegedly fired shots at the customer during the exchange, fled the scene and remains at large. The customer, who was not injured, cooperated fully with police.
Dothan Fire and Rescue transported Salter to a local hospital, and the mall was evacuated as officers conducted multiple searches to ensure public safety.
Investigators believe the barbershop shooting was linked to an ongoing dispute stemming from “past incidents,” possibly related to the recent death of 23-year-old Bobby Lee David Miracle Lucas in Troy.
Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba condemned the violence, saying, “Our citizens deserve to be safe when shopping at our retail establishments and everywhere else in this city. We cannot live in fear of these senseless acts.”
Police Chief William Benny added, “It is time for the violence to stop. Disagree verbally, not violently.”
