Alabama A&M University has announced the promotion of Dr. Paul A. Bryant to Vice President, a role he will hold concurrently with his existing position as Director of Athletics, effective July 1, 2025. University President Dr. Daniel K. Wims made the announcement, highlighting Dr. Bryant’s transformative leadership since his appointment as Director of Athletics in August 2022. 

Under Dr. Bryant’s guidance, Alabama A&M’s athletic programs have experienced significant growth and success. The departmental GPA has consistently risen, with more than 246 student-athletes earning recognition on the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Commissioner’s Honor Roll in the past year alone. Athletic competitiveness has also reached new heights, with strategic hiring of championship-level coaches and staff propelling the Bulldogs to significant improvements across all sports. 

Dr. Bryant’s tenure has also seen record-breaking attendance figures. The 2023 Homecoming football game at Louis Crews Stadium attracted a record 26,391 fans. Men’s basketball drew a record-setting crowd of 6,569, and women’s basketball attracted 5,981 fans—both against rival Alabama State.aamusports.com+8aamusports.com+8rocketcitynow.com+8

Facility enhancements have been a hallmark of Dr. Bryant’s leadership. Notable improvements include the establishment of the Dog Kennels Community at Louis Crews Stadium and the installation of new video boards at all athletic venues.Ongoing projects aim to provide state-of-the-art resources for student-athletes and fans alike. 

In addition to athletic achievements, Dr. Bryant has prioritized the mental health and well-being of student-athletes. He launched the SWAC’s first Mental Health Support Initiative within the athletics department and established strategic partnerships, including with Yapit, to comprehensively support student-athlete welfare. 

Dr. Bryant’s impact extends beyond the university. His hometown of Dayton, Ohio, designated June 14 as “Dr. Paul A. Bryant Day” in recognition of his outstanding contributions and positive community influence.
