Marshall County Commission Chairman David Reed Dies

GUNTERSVILLE, AL — David Reed, newly appointed chairman of the Marshall County Commission, died unexpectedly on June 19, 2025, following a fall at his home. He had been appointed by Governor Kay Ivey just 13 days earlier, after the death of longtime chairman James Hutcheson. Reed was a respected business leader and community advocate.

Reed led Whitaker Contracting Corp., Inc., serving as CEO from 2017 until his death. Under his leadership, the company grew to 350 employees and $139 million in annual revenue. He also served 15 years on the Guntersville Board of Education and held leadership roles in state road-building associations.
