A 25-year-old Huntsville woman has been charged with murder following an early morning shooting.

Sgt. Chris Jackson of Huntsville police said the incident happened at about 1 a.m., when police responded to a shots-fired call in the 3900 block of Rucker Circle.

They found a man later identified as Nicholas Kyle Howell, 22, of Huntsville, lying in the roadway at Telstar and Baldwin Circle, suffering from a gunshot.

Jackson said Howell told officers he had been in the area of the 3900 block of Rucker Circle with a friend when he was shot.

He was then taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Jackson said investigators found physical evidence at a nearby apartment complex on Rucker Circle and developed information suggesting the suspect was in a nearby apartment.

Amber Marie Baker, 25, of Huntsville, was located in one of the apartments.

Investigators believe the incident began as a planned transaction by Howell to buy items from Baker. During the meeting, Baker pulled out a firearm and shot the victim.

Baker was initially booked into the Madison County Jail on a charge of first degree assault.

However, Howell died later this morning of his injuries, prompting officials to charge Baker with murder.
