Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. Thanks for Faith, Life, Health, Family, Friends and all that God does for us. I hope everyone had a great week and spent time with family and told them how much you love them. Life is getting shorter as I had another birthday in May. Jeannie Robinson gave me a beautiful birthday card. I stopped adding years to my age on birthdays anymore.
My Grandson Nathan went with me to a County Commission meeting recently and met Commissioner Dale Strong. He worked for Dale Strong in his campaign and really enjoyed helping. My grandson will be here to vote on election day but then he will be leaving a few weeks later to move to Atlanta. He accepted a job there after graduating from Auburn last month. The family is sad to see him go but he must do what makes him happy.
The Huntsville School Superintend is running against Dale Strong in the race to replace Mo Brooks who is running for U.S. Senate. There were a lot of politics between the Huntsville City School system and our Huntsville City Leaders when Stone Middle was talked about being sold for $5 million and then was sold for only $1.3 million. The city then bought 4 acres between Stone Middle and the Yellow Hammer buildings. I never understood the City’s dealings in this deal.
POLITICS IN ALABAMA
There will be a runoff for the open U.S. Senate seat on June 21. Katie Britt is running against Mo Brooks. It seems Alabamians want new blood in Washington but we have enough of that already. I am not happy with some of Britt’s commercials. Instead of banging up on another candidate, why not talk about what you will do to make a better quality of life for our citizens. I am thinking this will cause me to vote for Mo Brooks as he has been OK in government.
CITY POLITICS
It is amazing how the City Council conducts the City Council meetings now. They have changed the agenda so much and all the issues are not brought up for discussion. The people cannot talk about anything being voted on throughout the meeting and are only allowed to discuss 1 item on the agenda at the first of the meetings. They need to put the agenda back as it was and quit talking so much about everything not on the agenda. The people are left out and you the leaders do not care.
The items concerning the surplus of our city property need to be fully disclosed and discussed with the public’s involvement. It seems like our city is giving our property away to their builder friends and partners. This needs some looking into as we deserve to know the address of the property as well as who is getting the property and what they intend to do with it. The public has a right to know more about our city’s business. There is an election coming and if the current city leaders won’t be open with us and do what is best for the us all then we need to vote some new candidates in that will. For our leaders that voted to tear down the city parking garage, I will never let that rest as that was a horrible mistake. Love you all and have a blessed we
