One Woman’s Opinion

Jackie Reed Columnist

Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. Mr. William Smothers has a beautiful family and has been the owner of the paper for many years. A big thanks to him for being so loyal and dedicated to the public.

Thank God for the beautiful weather that we have be able to enjoy so much lately. Spring is approaching fast.

My grandson at Auburn does not come home as much as he once did. He is a senior this year and is very busy. I am hoping when he graduates that he will want to get a job in Huntsville and be close to home. It seems that when many leave they never come back to their hometown. My son went to Auburn this past weekend to spend some time with his son and to go to the Auburn Basketball game on Saturday. Congratulations to Auburn for winning the SEC Championship. My other grandson is a senior at Huntsville High School and will be attending college in the Fall.

MY LIFE IN POLITICS

I want to write a book of “My Life in Politics” as politics is always on my mind.  Politicians vote and change so many things that shouldn’t be changed. I wish the citizens and public would wake up and question what happened to our politicians’ common sense and doing what is best for the citizens to keep them safe and happy.  I have always heard that “Money is the Root of all Evil”. I wonder if this is part of the problem.

NEWCOMERS

Madison County saw more people move in than move out between 2015 and 2019. The county has seen over 3,200 newcomers per year. Madison County added 50,000 people between 2010 and 2020 making it the largest growth in the state. According to data, many are coming in from both within the United States and other countries. Cotton and crop fields are being paved for new homes and subdivisions across the county. Madison county did lose some of its population to many neighboring counties.

LEADERS OF HUNTSVILLE

Traffic is bad and speeders will run over you driving in Huntsville. Are our leaders working with the state to control the traffic in and around the city? Speeders are terrible in our city because there are not enough Police Officers and Police cars to properly patrol yet our city council voted to annex 325 additional acres into the city at the last city council meeting. We could spend money on public services instead of building parking garages for the developers. All we see happening in this city is demolishing historical buildings and rebuilding big red brick buildings for the developers and politicians wanting to be a big city. If our Leaders want to live in a big city pack up and I will pay for your move. Our planning in this City is terrible and is conducted without public input. If you Leaders cared about taking care of what we already have and our citizens you would change or would you?

Love you all and have a blessed week.
