One Woman’s Opinion

Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. This 2019 year is almost over.  I wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a Blessed Happy New Year.  Remember “Love” is the greatest gift of all and being together with family and loved ones is always great. I wish my family a Merry Christmas as well and the Speakin Out News family as we appreciate their business.  Remember, the Speakin Out newspaper would be a special Christmas present for your loved ones.

There are many stores and restaurants having a hard time as there are not many people working or looking for jobs.  Prices have gone up so much which makes it hard for everyone this Christmas, but with God’s help he will see us thru.

POLITICIANS

Prayers are needed for our Leaders and Politicians who are in office and the ones that will be on the ballots for next year’s election. In my lifetime I have never seen government so messed up with so many changes taking place that are not for the betterment of the citizens.

CITY GOVERNMENT

Last week’s city council meeting was the last one for the year until January. There were many big deals on the agenda since it was the last meeting. The meeting lasted until 11:30 in the evening.

The parking garage in front of city hall is to be torn down soon. I was given a copy of the Huntsville City Hall and Parking Garage Construction presentation that states there were several public meetings held during their planning. I did not know nor was I told of any such meetings with the public.

There were many resolutions on the agenda authorizing the mayor to execute all documents necessary to convey the “Parking Garage A” to the Public Building Authority of Huntsville as the site for the new City Hall Building. There is a Modification No. l to the agreement between the City of Huntsville and Goodwyn Mills and Cawood Inc., for general services for the new City Hall and the parking deck. There are also agreements with Turner Construction Company for the construction of the new city hall and parking garage and an agreement with OMI, Inc., for engineering services.

Many developers are involved in this project and the price with all the cost has not been clearly identified. Tearing down and hauling off the Parking Garage and City Hall will be a financial disaster. Why don’t our leaders use some Common Sense and build back where the existing City Hall is now and leave parking garage where it is. If they had taken care of these properties over the years, they would not be in the shape they are in today. If I did not touch my home in 30-40 years it would need to need lots of work done to it as well. Forgive me for being so involved in the business of our City and fighting for more public input.

Have a Merry, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Love you all and have a blessed week.
