One Woman’s Opinion

Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. Thanks for subscribing to Speakin Out News and reading my article. This paper is a great present for your loved ones for Christmas and can be delivered to the home. At times my article may be a bit much but it is just an opinion.

Are you ready for cold weather? I am not. We have had a touch of cold weather in the past few weeks and I believe we are in for a tough winter.

TRICK OR TREAT

I had a plan I wanted to present to the public on television for Trick or Treat day.  I could not get a television news station interested in doing a press conference with me and especially on Sunday. The big parking garage in front of city hall is to be torn down, possibly at the beginning of this month.  I have been fussing to try to get them to change their mind on doing away with the parking garage for a year as I believe it is needed to support the courthouse and other businesses downtown.  I have a long mixed blonde and blue Halloween wig that I was going to wear for the press conference and was going to be dressed in blue in front of the garage downtown.  My message was the TRICK was on the public since many do not know the garage is coming down. The TREAT was that our City Leaders and the developers will be the only ones that benefit from this. What a TRICK OR TREAT this is.  What are their plans for the City Hall property once the new city hall is built on the parking garage property? The public was not part of this planning or any others taking place in Huntsville and we have the right to know.

GOVERNOR’S NEAR 14th STREET

Please go to the Post Office on Governors Drive and see what is being built across the street.  It is a bad situation as the Planning Department is not doing their job as they should. The building is sitting in the middle of the street and you cannot see to turn off Governors Drive on to 14th street. This location is near where my husband and I owned 3 pieces of rental property on Governors Drive in Warren Park Subdivision many years ago. We asked to have our property rezoned for development from the Variance Committee and were turned down 3 times because the interstate was coming thru. Do you believe now that another road could be built near this development? Who is running Huntsville, Alabama? They are changing all our ordinances for the worse and are ruining our city. Billboards laws have changed as well as paintings on the sides of buildings. I once owned a business called Debra’s Clothesline and the city came out and measured the signs that I wanted to place on my property to ensure the signs complied with the ordinances and restrictions. Now instead of making sure the ordinances are followed, our city government just changes the ordinance to fit whatever they want. I bet the City attorney wishes they had changed the ordinances on my property back when I asked them to because I have been monitoring the City dealings going on ever since.

Love you all and have a blessed week.
