Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. Time is passing fast and we are losing many of our loved ones. Give thanks everyday for Life, Health, Faith, Family and Friends. These things are very important and your prayers will be heard.
Please also pray for the Dr. Richard Showers family. Dr. Showers is already being missed by many as he had such a caring heart. As Mayor Battle said, Dr. Showers was a tireless community champion who went above and beyond for his District l. He was concerned about issues all over the city and ask questions before he voted. I got to know him back in 1988 when he was a candidate running for City Council and I was a candidate for Mayor. The last time I saw Dr. Showers was at Johnson High School when the City Leaders were presenting what to do with Johnson High property. He will always be remembered as a loving, caring person.
There were so many beautiful flowers at his funeral and many of them came from Alberts Flower Shop. Speakin Out News sent a beautiful flower arrangement with a ribbon with “Speakin Out News” printed across the front.
Collin Powell, the former U.S. Secretary of state died last Monday. He had multiple myeloma cancer, and Parkinson disease. The former General had been fighting his diseases for some time and said, “Don’t feel sorry for me for God’s sake. I’m 84 years old.” He was a true hero for our Country.
COKE PROPERTY
The development plans are finally being discussed on what will is to be done with the downtown Coke property. For months I have asked leaders to use this property to extend the VBC for outdoor venues. Their plans are to build 26,000 square feet of retail and a new upscale hotel. Do our Leaders have any Common Sense and know anything about working for the people and taking care of what we already have? They believe in giving our city property to their friends and building parking garages. Someday we will be left with empty buildings and a large debt. Start praying for our Leaders.
PARKING GARAGE/ CITY HALL
Another deal is in the making and no one cares. The parking garage in front of City Hall is coming down on the 1st of November. The new City Hall will be developed on the parking garage site. Who is taking over the city hall property? This property is the most important piece of property in this city and no one has enough money to buy it in my opinion. I have a Real Estate License and know that giving our city property away has no value to our city and only helps the developers. Just remember that next year is an election year for three of the City Council seats.
Love you all and have a blessed week.
