The public launch of the Dr. Izora P. Harrison Foundation was held on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at 4:00 p.m., at the Cooper House on Randolph Avenue, Huntsville, Alabama. The foundation was founded by Mrs. Rosemary Robinson, a University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) retiree. Mrs. Robinson named the foundation in honor of Dr. Izora P. Harrison, who Mrs. Robinson credits as the motivation that started her on her higher education pursuit.

Dr. Harrison is a retiree of Calhoun Community College in Decatur, Alabama, having worked there for 37 years. Mrs. Robinson and Dr. Harrison’s paths would cross during that time, and a relationship formed still firm today. To read more about the special relationship between Dr. Harrison and Mrs. Robinson, please go to the foundation’s website: https://www. izoraharrisonfoundation.org.

The event on Saturday was the first scholarship and book stipend award presentation. Those receiving scholarship awards were Joshua Clay, Nevaeh Eggleston, Amber Hinton, Darius Holden, Jr., Desiree Holt, Faith Martin, Micah Pruitt, Christian Readus, and Ava Travis.

The foundation theme is, “Mentoring for Generational Success.” They aim to support minority students in their educational and career endeavors with tuition, books, supplies, and mentoring.

Entertainment was provided by two Huntsville premier saxophonists, Alex Banks, II, and Tommy Friend.
