The Historic Huntsville Foundation (HHF) presented its 2021 Historic Preservation Awards on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, 1:00 p.m. The event was held at the William Hooper Councill Memorial Park. According to the HHF brochure “The Historic Huntsville Foundation (HHF) promotes the presentation of historic sites, buildings, houses, and neighborhoods in Huntsville and Madison County through education, advocacy, and civic engagement.”
The following awards were presented: Pioneer Preservation Awards for the rehabilitation of the c. 1915 Giles House and the c. 1890 Betts House, the Preservation in Action Award presented to Huntsville Fire and Rescue-Station 1 for saving the historic Harrison Brothers Hardware from an electrical fire, the Alabama Landmark Preservation Award for the restoration of the c. 1836 Thomas Bibb House, the Economic Revitalization Through Historic Preservation Award presented for the adaptive reuse of the North Huntsville Shopping Center, headquarters for H. C. Blake and the H. C. Blake Art and History Center, the Alabama Preservation Pathfinder Award honoring St. Joseph Mission School’s peaceful integration of Alabama schools, and the Outstanding Achievement in Historic Preservation Award, presented for the adaptive reuse of the c. 1941 Warden’s Residence, presented to the City of Triana and the Triana Historical Society, and to the William Hooper Councill Alumni Association, the City of Huntsville General Services Department and Parks and Recreation Department, Bostick Landscape Architects, VanPeursem Architects, Hyde Engineering, Jason Phillips Engineering, and Pearce Construction for the William Hooper Councill Memorial Park, which is a lasting tribute to the William Hooper.
